The best asphalt shingle warranty in the industry is the GAF Timberline series of shingles. For about $100 you will receive a 50-year labor and material warranty with no proration. A labor and material warranty means that the manufacturer takes responsibility of your roof for the duration of the warranty period, which means you will be covered for factory defects and the labor to install then new shingles. Only a handful of roofers in Hawaii can provide their customers with an extended labor and material warranty through GAF, and MRC Roofing is one of them.

Shingle durability is ranked by warranted life, ranging from 20 years to limited lifetime. Shingles tend to last longer where the weather stays consistent, either consistently warm, or consistently cool.

Algae in Hawaii is very common. The algae attacks the roofs in Hawaii and tends to turn roofs black. It’s important to install algae resistant shingles, or else a lite colored shingle that provides a reflective quality will eventually become a heat sink and create a hot attic or interior living space.
